Why We’re Called Round13 Capital

We get asked this question routinely. And no, it doesn’t mean we expect to invest in a Series M (13th letter in the alphabet).

Our name derives from the most famous boxing match ever, the “Thrilla in Manilla”. It was the third and final boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, set in the Philippines in 1975, for the Championship of the World. Round 13 of the fight was arguably the most brutal round of boxing in the history of the sport. Both fighters barely survived the 14th round and only Ali could stand for the beginning of the 15th. Frazier’s corner conceded the fight to Ali.

We thought the way both fighters were able to continue after round 13 was inspiring – emblematic of the entrepreneurs in our portfolio, and the way we think of ourselves. And so we named ourselves Round13.
